we’re at a coffee shop next door to the “corn palace” which as opposed to popular belief is not a palace made of corn but is a basketball court and eddie money is scheduled to play there next week. we left brooklyn at about 4:30 am two days ago, or at least tried to when colin (our friend coming with us) left his phone off and we spent a little while throwing quarter bouncy balls at his bedroom window, it was a real rom-com situation and then hoped on the road over the williamsburg bridge, through the holland tunnel to immediately get lost the second we hit new jersey. about 12 hours later we’re in chicago playing the first event of MAULED BY TIGERS FEST that just happened to be in the church al sharpton used to do his thing at. it was super hot and super fun, accidently throwing an elbow into a video camera lens and now i can’t lift things. the next day hit up some double diggle dogg action then back on the road and now we are here at corn palace usa!
that one picture was taken on my second attempt at getting on that amp after totally falling off on the first. and kim and i canceled our flights to seatle and decided to make it a road trip, stopping to play MAULED BY TIGERS FEST in chicago, which has a million awesome bands throughout the week (www.mauledbytigers.com) and our only other planned stop is the lovely missoula montana. (info for these shows to the right). we’re leaving on wednesday, totally stressed out like before every tour and totally stoked.
maybe you noticed a little bit back where we had a tour in august that was all through the US and canada and then suddenly almost all those shows dissapeared. well the band we were suppose to roll with, french kicks, had to can most the tour to support for another tour yet we are still going to be on the west coast for a couple weeks in the middle to end of august and are siked about that cause maybe by the ol’ pacific it’ll be a little cooler then here in new york where kim and i have been sleeping in our practice space cause our aparment is a total oven and we were too cheap to buy an air conditioner and now it seems like this city is sold out of ‘em. and we also have a tour coming up in september-october that we just put some dates up for, and that’s with the amazing king tuff. this photo is from balitmore a week or two ago at Whartscape, where leaving we took a wrong turn and we saw the craziest pimp/prostitute situation. the dude (pimp) just counting a huge stack of cash on the sidewalk at 3:30 am while a few women in heals that must have been over a foot tall leaned into car windows and it was within a block of a police station! baltimore is crazy.
we initially recorded back in march at infrasonic studio in LA. a great place with the help of awesome dude lars “no veggies” stalfors. yet after we thought we could hammer it out in less days than we could actually do it (singing 11 hours a day then playing shows afterwards, i could hardly talk!) we had to cancel some shows, stay longer, rush to get it finished, and then drive half way across the country from LA to iowa city to catch back up to our tour with meneguar. woo. but in receiving the final mix after we had rushed so much, we felt it was not quite how we wanted it. so we went back to work on it in a by-coastal track exchange for 3 months… (man were we off thinking we could do it in a week!) and last week we sent out the final mix that we are totally stoked on! but in conclusion the release date won’t be till october, but we try to live by the ol’ “if it’s worth doing… it’s worth doing right” sorta thing and we are really proud of how it came out.
